The Presidential Palace is the official residence of the President of Laos, who, by convention, also holds the position of General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party. It is located on the banks of the Mekong River in the capital city, Vientiane.The Presidential Palace in Vientiane is one of the city’s most famous landmarks and a national monument which features on the 50,000 kip banknote.The Presidential Palace is not open to the public but can be viewed from the outside. The front of the palace is visible from the Ave Lane Xang near to Wat Si Sa Ket. The rear of the palace can be seen from the the Quai Fa Ngum from near to the Chao Anouvong Statue.
