Salavan is a province of Laos, located in the south of the country, covering nearly 1,000 sq km in the western part of the province next to the Mekong river. It is thought that Asiatic black bear, banteng, clouded leopard, Douc langur, elephant, gibbon, guar, Siamese crocodile and tiger and inhabit this area. Within a cave huge stone caskets are piled one on top of the other, province not only beauty but interesting thoughts as to how it originated.
Highlights of Salavan
- Nature Journey: There are two waterfalls, Tadlo waterfall and Tad Tevada waterfall, where you can relax and enjoy swimming. In addition, you can also experience eleplant riding and trekking with alocal guide.
- Buddhism Culture: Buddhism prevails in Laos. There is a Buddhism library located in Salavan. In 2009, it was rebuilt according to original style by the strong wood art which located in the middle of the temple pond due to solidarity of Salavanh’s people, faithful, protected and preserve valuable Lao people.Prince Souphanouvong’s Bridge
- Prince Souphanouvong’s Bridge : Prince Souphanouvong is the former President of Laos. He was the President of Laos from December 1975 to August 1991. Over the Sedone river, the bridge was built in 1942. It was designed by Mr. Souphanouvong. It was destroyed by the American bombing in 1968. You can still see the huge broken bridge lying on the riverbank.
- Ongkeo Pyramid in Salavan : This pyramid of volcanic rocks marks the place of Ongkeo’s birth. He is the hero of Salavan, because of his resistance to the French. This monument is in the grounds of the local hospital.
- Suspension Bridge : This bridge is in a nice and natural jungle you can experience a breathtaking walk here. It would be better to come in a dry season.
- Khaen Garden : A small well maintained garden surrounds this monument and there are some good views of the mountains. It is near a nice cafe. Not the most important place in the city but a worthwhile destination in Salavan.
