Kunming, the provincial capital of Yunnan Province, is one of the first national historical and cultural cities, the political, economic, cultural, scientific, and technological and transportation center of Yunnan Province, an important tourist and trade city in China, an important central city in the western region and a national first-grade port city. Vientiane was a thriving commercial centre from as early as the 17th century. Modern Vientiane has the impression that the streets are not very wide, but the city is bustling with shops on both sides, most of which are department stores, restaurants, photo and clothing shops. In the suburbs there are wooden and bamboo buildings in the style of the Lao Long people, often with trees or fences in front and behind the houses to form a large or small courtyard, which makes living in such houses cool and comfortable in the hot Laos climate. Vientiane is separated from Thailand by the Mekong River, and in the dry season the shallow half of the riverbed is exposed, leaving only a small stream in the middle, which one can wade through to Thailand. |

Laos has a tropical monsoon climate with two distinct seasons: the dry season from November to April and the rainy season from May to October. The dry season, from November to February, is the best time to visit. During this time, the temperature is pleasant and rainfall is low. It is also a prime time for outdoor activities.
