It is supported by 57 pillars, and it has been undergoing renovation for some time. The gold finishing and dark wooden pillars are striking.

The Xedon River is surrounded by the jungle. A beautiful river. On the banks in the dry season, you can see the locals growing vegetables. There is a small wooden ferry if you want to explore the other side of the river. The ferryman is usually sleeping on the far side but a bit of shouting and arm waving will bring him over.

    Cultural Scenic Spots:

    • Buddhism library
Built over 200-years ago, bombers destroyed the original Wat Simongkhoun on the Xe Don River in 1972. Remnants of this temple and its stupa can still be seen in the town’s northeast, though vines and shrubs try to hide it. Novice monks sometimes rest in the temple’s sala on the river bank near the warehouse storing longboats used during the annual boat racing festival. In 2009, it was rebuilt by according to original style by the strong wood art which located in the middle of the temple pond due to solidarity of Salavanh’s people, faithful, protected and preserve valuable Lao people.
    • Prince Souphanouvong's Bridge
Prince Souphanouvong is the former President of Laos. He was the President of Laos from December 1975 to August 1991. Over the Sedone river, the bridge was built in 1942. It was designed by Mr. Souphanouvong. It was destroyed by the American bombing in 1968. You can still see the huge broken bridge lying on the riverbank.
    • Ongkeo Pyramid
This pyramid of volcanic rocks marks the place of Ongkeo's birth. He is the hero of Salavan, because of his resistance to the French. This monument is in the grounds of the local hospital.
    • Ongkeo Monument Park
Ongkeo is the “hero” of Salavan, he fought the French for 6 years because of their destruction of a temple. He was executed by them in 1910. The French would have labelled him a terrorist, but one man's terrorist is another's freedom fighter. A thought worth pondering as countries fight “terrorists”. The statue of him stands in the park. There is a large open area behind him, where locals gather in the evening to socialize and exercise. A great place to meet local people.
