Arrive in Kunming
Hello! Welcome to Kunming! Kunming is the capital and largest city of Yunnan Province in southwest China. Known as the "Spring City" due to its mild climate all year round, Kunming is famous for its beautiful scenery, colorful ethnic minority cultures, and vibrant urban atmosphere.For history enthusiasts, the Yuantong Temple, one of the oldest and most important Buddhist temples in Kunming, offers a peaceful retreat to admire its architecture, sculptures, and religious artifacts. Overall, Kunming is a vibrant and diverse city that offers a mix of natural beauty, cultural experiences, and historical landmarks, making it a must-visit destination in Yunnan Province.
Set out on a relaxing walk around Green Lake, also know as Cuihu Park, where you can explore quaint tea houses and boutique shops offering unique handicrafts and stunning local artwork, creating a delightful and enriching experience for visitors.Green Lake is surrounded by charming tea houses, boutiques, and art shops. The lake itself is adorned with lush greenery, blooming lotus flowers, and traditional pavilions, making it a popular spot for leisurely strolls and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. It is a beloved destination for locals and tourists alike, offering a tranquil escape in the heart of the city.
Then you may go to The Flowers and Birds Market in Kunming, where is a vibrant and bustling marketplace where visitors can immerse themselves in the sights and sounds of colorful flowers and chirping birds. This lively market offers a wide variety of flowers, plants, and exotic birds for sale, making it a paradise for nature lovers and gardening enthusiasts. Kunming-Dongchuan
After breakfast,you will set out on a scenic 4-hour drive along the national highway to Dongchuan Red Land, where covering a distance of 150 km. Upon arrival in the afternoon, you may enjoy a relaxing break before heading out to explore various picturesque spots such as Damakan Hill and JingxiuYuan Hill, among others. Damakan, located around 9km away from the main road along a rough dirt track, is a popular vantage point for photographers, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape. As the sun begins to set, capturing the bustling village below and the smoke rising from the farmhouses creates a mesmerizing scene. After a satisfying lunch, continue photographing the vibrant colors of Dongchuan under the warm hues of the afternoon light. The day culminates with a visit to Luoxia Gou, a must-visit spot for experiencing the breathtaking sunset over the red soil. Guests will spend the night at a guesthouse, ensuring a comfortable and memorable stay.
Dongchuan-Shilin
Rise and shine early to witness the impressive sunrise of Damakan, where the sprawling red fields meet the majestic mountains at the horizon, creating a picturesque scene that is truly worth the early wake-up call. For photographers seeking the perfect shot, it is recommended to wake up at 5:00 am, depart from the hotel at 5:30 am, and reach Damakan within 30 minutes to secure a prime spot for capturing the sunrise. After enjoying this magical moment, continue your journey to Seven-Color Slope (Qicaipo), also known as the 'Embroidery Garden', where, if fortunate, you may encounter seven fields displaying a vibrant spectrum of colors. Next, you will explore Jinxiuyuan, a scenic location boasting vast rolling hills adorned with red fields, providing ample opportunities for capturing the stunning landscape. Following a delicious lunch, embark on a drive to Shilin County for an overnight stay, concluding a day filled with unforgettable sights and experiences.
Shilin-Luoping
In the morning, depart for a visit to the renowned Stone Forest located in Shilin County, just 120 kilometers away from Kunming, allowing for a leisurely three-hour drive. Spanning an impressive area of 400 square kilometers, the Stone Forest enchants visitors with its unique karst topography, offering a captivating experience that is truly one of the best of its kind in China. Explore the various sections of the Stone Forest, including the Greater Stone Forest, Lesser Stone Forest, Naigu Stone Forest, Zhiyun Cave, Long Lake, Da Dieshui Waterfall, and Qifeng Cave, each showcasing the natural beauty and wonder of this geological marvel.
Subsequently, embark on a scenic drive to Luoping, a journey lasting approximately two hours. Upon arrival, visit the mesmerizing Sea of Rapeseed Flowers, a sight to behold especially during the blooming season when the vibrant yellow rapeseed flowers blanket the landscape against the backdrop of the stunning karst scenery. The captivating beauty of the surroundings attracts numerous photographers seeking to capture the breathtaking views. Additionally, Luoping's tourism office organizes various shows, including performances by the local minorities such as the Buyi and Miao, enhancing the overall experience for visitors. Immerse yourself in the natural and cultural splendor of Luoping before continuing your journey through this enchanting region.
Luoping-Chengzi-Mile
Today you start your day early by soaking in the magnificent views of the vast rape fields from the top of Jinji Mountain. Every February, when the rapeseed flowers are in full bloom, Luoping transforms into the largest garden in the world, with a mesmerizing sea of yellow flowers covering over 130 square kilometers. This stunning sight has made Luoping a popular springtime destination, drawing visitors from near and far to witness the natural beauty of the landscape.
Then, you may head to Niujie for a different perspective of the beautiful rape fields, where the farmland is cultivated in interesting spiral shapes and terraces. Located just a few kilometers north of Luoping town, Niujie features smaller-scale farms carved out of a shallow valley with gentle slopes. When viewed from a higher vantage point, these farms showcase circular rings of yellow flowers that resemble the intricate patterns of a snail's shell or rice terraces in corkscrew formations, a testament to the creativity and artistry of the local farmers in response to the natural landscape.
In the afternoon, explore the Jiulong Waterfalls, a cluster of spectacular waterfalls formed along the Jiulong River. The largest waterfall boasts a drop of 56 meters and a width of 112 meters, offering a mesmerizing display of nature's power and beauty. Located just 22 kilometers northeast of the county seat, this waterfall group features a diverse range of waterfalls in varying sizes and shapes, each with its own unique charm and allure, making it one of the Six Most Beautiful Waterfalls in China as recognized by Chinese National Geography.
Finally, arrive in Mile County, renowned as the home of hot springs in Yunnan Province. Indulge in a relaxing soak at Huquan Spring Resort in the late afternoon, rejuvenating your body and mind with the therapeutic benefits of the natural hot springs, a perfect way to unwind and end your day on a peaceful note.
Mile-Mengzi-Yuanyang
Drive approximately 4 hours to Yuanyang via Kaiyun and Gejiu, with stops at villages along the way. Traverse through the mountainous region inhabited by the Yi people and the Red River valley where the Dai people cultivate bananas and tropical fruits. Visit the Malipo Miao Ethnic Village on the way to immerse yourself in the local culture and customs.
After lunch, continue your journey to Panzhihua Town, where you can witness the captivating sunset over the Laohuzui Rice Terraces. Located about 20 kilometers from Yuanyang city, these terraces offer a stunning display of natural beauty during the twilight hours. The name "Laohuzui" translates to "the mouth of the tiger" in Chinese, with some seeing the formation resembling a tiger's mouth in the rice fields, while others perceive it as a depiction of a horse's shape. During sunset at Laohuzui, photographers from across China gather to capture the perfect shot, making it a popular spot for photography enthusiasts.
In May, the Laohuzui rice fields transition from yellow to green as farmers plant their rice seedlings at the end of spring, creating a lush and picturesque landscape that is a feast for the eyes. Explore the surrounding Yi and Hani ethnic villages near Panzhihua Town to gain insight into the local way of life and traditions, adding a cultural dimension to your journey through this enchanting region.
Yuanyang
Today you have a full day to visit the terraces belonging to the Hani and Yi people. These rice terraces – carved out of the mountainsides by generations of Hani people – are said to be among the most magnificent in the world. You get up very early to see the sunrise over the terraces at Duoyi village and then visit the local Hani and Yi people. During the day you will visit different areas of the huge valley to see the amazing engineering and beautiful formations of the terraces. There are lots of rice terraces in Yuanyang, you will choose the most beautiful parts of them to visit.
Duoyishu Rice Rerrace in Yuanyang is one of the most photographed in Yunnan. The low lying cloud and the water field rice terrace is unique during winter and early spring. As the sun rises the terraces come alive with the sky’s reflection. In the winter months the fields are flooded in order to plow and plant for the new season. The rising sun creates an amazing reflection off the water in the terraces.
In the late afternoon you drive back to Xinjie Town, enjoy the sunset view of Longshuba Hani Rice Terraces and villages. Yuanyang Rice Terrace is a self sustaining ecosystem. During winter to early spring, the entire field is irrigated with spring water from the forest above to rejuvenate and getting prepared for the next season. The Hani people have repeated this for more than a thousand years. There is only one harvest in a year for the Yuanyang Rice Terrace; planting is from March to Oct./Nov. every year.
Yuanyang-Jianshui
After breakfast in the hotel, drive about 3 hours to Jianshui County. On the way back, visit Jianshui Swallow Cave which is the largest karst formation cave in Asia. There are usually thousands of swallows flying around in this aptly named cave. You will follow a guide in the cave to see the striking caverns and also to see the bare hand rock climbing performance in the cave. Walk into the cave and visit the colorful Karst landform and take the small boat cruise out of the cave Arrive in Jianshui Ancient Town in the afternoon, pay a visit to Jianshui Ancient Town, Zhu Family Garden and Confucius Temple. Visit the famous Confucius Temple with its interesting history. Confucious was born in Shandong province 2,500 years ago and taught more than 3,000 students in his lifetime, among them 72 were outstanding. He is the greatest teacher in China’s history and has worldwide influence and his work has worldwide influence.
Jianshui-Kunming
Drive to Tuanshan Village about 15KM away from Jianshui Ancient Town, visit the Zhang Family Garden, the ancient hourses and the Double Dragon Bridge. Visit Tunshan village with hundred year old houses built by the family of Zhang. In the village, you will see the different standards of houses built by rich and poor families, and also the family temple which plays an important role for education, family history, and Chinese culture, which says that people should always remember their ancestors and maintain community traditions After lunch, drive back to Kunming. On the way, visit Xingmeng Mongolia Village in Tonghai County of Yuxi City.
