Day by Day Itinerary
Paro Arrival and Visit Historical Sites
Welcome to the Thunder Dragon. Your tour guide will meet you in the airport of Paro. After checking in your hotel, you will visit the National Museum, where houses lots of exquisite local artworks, Paro Dzong (Rinpung Dzong), where offers you beautiful river view and Kyichu Temple, a small temple with beautiful views.
Domestic Flight to Bumthang from Paro
You will take a flight to Bumthang from Paro today. It took 12 hours to drive from Paro to Bumthang before. Now, a flight makes the transfer time decreased to 35 minutes.
Bumthang Local Culture and History Tour
Today you will learn about local history and religions in the Jambay Lhakhang and Kuraj Lhakhang first. They both have a history of over 1200 years. Continue your tour to the Burning Lake – Mebartsho, where local people float small butter lamps to makes wishes. Today’s last destination is the Jakar Dzong, a monastery with a history of 450 years.
Transfer to Trashigang from Bumthang
You will take a long drive from Bumthang to Trashigang today. Feel free to let your guide know If you want to stop to take photos.
First Trekking Day – Chaling to Donmong Chu
The altitude will go up to 3100 meters from 2100 meters during today’s trek. Although the distance is only 8 meters, you will trek slowly for better acclimatization. Today’s trek takes around 5 hours. Yaks and beautiful sceneries are your best friends during the trek.
Second Trekking Day – Donmong Chu to Merak
You will enter a local village during today’s20-kilometer-long trek. Our guide will help you communicate with the villagers.Although the distance is much longer than yesterday, the trekking time isalmost the same, because the altitude will only go up for 400 meters. You can havea wonderful view of the giant mountains in today’s campsite.
Third Trekking Day – Merak to Miksa Teng
You will trek upwards to the 4100-meter-high Nachungla Pass, and then downwards to the 3100-meter-high Miksa Teng today. For better acclimatization, the trekking time is set to around 6 hours for this 14-liometer-long trek.
Fourth Trekking Day – Miksa Teng to Sakteng
You will trek along a river today. If you are fortunate enough, the red pandas may be welcoming you among the trees. There is no drastic altitude change today. It takes around 5 hours for today’s 14-kilometer-long trek.
Explore the Surrounding Area of Sakteng
Today, you will spend 1 day exploring the Sakteng Village, where houses around 80 families.
Final Trekking Day – Sakteng to Thakthi
Today is the final trekking day with the longest trekking distance (20 kilometers), so you need to get up early. The altitude will go down to 2000 meters from 3000 meters during the hike. After arriving in Thakthi, you will be transferred to Trashigang to stay overnight.
Transfer to Bumthang from Trashigang
You will drive to Bumthang today. Do not forget to take wonderful photos during the car ride.
Bumthang to Paro Transfer by Car or Flight
It takes 12 hours to travel to Paro from Bumthang by car, or 35 minutes. Please kindly let us know your preferred mode of transportation.
Hike to Taktsang (Tiger Nest) Monastery
Around 2.5 hours’ hiking are needed to reach Taktsang Monastery, the most famous religious relic in Bhutan. It is possible to take a rest at the view terrace, which is located on the half point of the hiking route.
