Day by Day Itinerary
Paro Arrival and Transfer to Punakha
Welcome to beautiful Bhutan! Your tour guide will pick you up at the airport of Paro and transfer you to Punakha, the former capital of Bhutan. You will visit the Punakha Dzong today. The Dzong, which collects precious local paintings and handcrafts, is located in a valley with postcard-worthy sceneries.
Transfer to Thimphu for Sightseeing
Today, you will transfer to Thimphu, Bhutan’s present capital, from Punakha, Bhutan’s former capital. Before arriving in Thimphu, pay a visit to the Devine Madman’s Monastery - Chimi Lhakhang, famously known for its fertility shrine, where one can receive a special fertility blessing.
After lunch, you will start your Thimphu Half-Day Tour, which covers Kuensel Phodrang, National Memorial Chorten, Takin Preserve, Tashichhoe Dzong and a local craft bazaar.
Celebrate Druk Wangyel Festival at Dochula
Different from most Bhutan’s festivals, the date of the Druk Wangyel Festival is always December 13th, while the Gregorian calendar dates of other festivals change every year based on the Bhutan’s Lunar calendar.
December 13th was set as the Druk Wangyel festival in 2011, in order to commemorate the fourth King of Bhutan and celebrate the victory of the war against Indian insurgent in 2003. You will see over 20 types of local dances today on the ground near Druk Wangyel Lhakhang, which is located at the Dochula Pass, the most beautiful mountain pass in Bhutan.
Transfer to Paro for Taktsang Monastery Hike
Around 2.5 hours’ hiking are needed to reach Taktsang Monastery, the most famous religious relic in Bhutan. It is possible to take a rest at the view terrace, which is located on the half point of the hiking route.
Pay a visit to a local people’s farmhouse to continue your tour. It is incredible that there is not a single nail used to build a farmhouse, which offers a good glimpse into the lifestyle of a farmer.
See You Next Time and Best Wishes!
In the morning, after breakfast your tour guide will escort you to the Paro airport for your flight to your onward destinations. See you next time!
